Job Description

About us

Coalition is the world's first Active Insurance provider designed to help prevent digital risk before it strikes. Founded in 2017, Coalition combines comprehensive insurance coverage and innovative cybersecurity tools to help businesses manage and mitigate potential cyberattacks.

Opportunities to make an impact with bold thinking are real—and happening daily at Coalition.

About the role

This role is a Staff-level individual contributor position within the Security Engineering team, focused on Coalition Control, a security platform that helps protect our policyholders from cyber crime. You’ll own critical backend services end-to-end, have broad autonomy to shape technical direction and will serve as a technical multiplier for the broader engineering team. You’ll have access to leading AI tools so you can just cook.

Responsibilities
  • Ship product fast: Work with Product, Design and Engineering to turn high-level product goals into iterative plans, shape scope, and contribute to development in a full-stack capacity with depth and expertise in backend.
  • Strengthen the platform: Own the technical vision, architecture, and expansion of the backend systems powering Coalition Control, while contributing to other Coalition Security Products
  • Hold a high bar for engineering craft: Raise our standards for code, code reviews, testing, and reliability, leveraging AI-assisted workflows to build faster and reduce toil
  • Unblock and elevate the team: Guide other engineers through architectural trade-offs, provide thoughtful yet speedy code reviews, and sharing knowledge with others
Skills and Qualifications
  • Proven experience as a backend engineer designing and building distributed systems and cloud-based services in production.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership, including influencing architecture, setting technical standards, enabling other engineers, and collaborating effectively across teams.
  • Strong proficiency with AI workflows, Python/FastAPI, TypeScript/Node.js, or a similar modern backend language and framework. Experience with React.js is a plus.
  • Hands-on experience designing, implementing, and maintaining APIs, as well as integrating with third-party APIs or platforms.
  • Solid understanding of security concepts and practices, with experience in a cybersecurity domain is a plus, but not strictly required
  • Strong communication skills and a practical, outcome-oriented approach to problem solving.
Compensation

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The US base salary for this position ranges from $160,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $230,000/year in our highest geographic market. Consistent with applicable laws, an employee's pay within this range is based on a number of factors, which include but are not limited to relevant education, skills, job-related knowledge, qualifications, work experience, credentials, and/or geographic location. Your recruiter can share more on target salary for your location during the interview process. Coalition, Inc. reserves the right to modify this range as needed.

Perks
  • 100% medical, dental and vision coverage
  • Flexible PTO policy
  • Annual home office stipend and WeWork access
  • Mental & physical health wellness programs (One Medical, Headspace, Wellhub, and more)!
  • Competitive compensation and opportunity for advancement
